On the Origin of Species." Jangan lupa selesaikan kuis bahasa Inggris di akhir artikel!

The Voyage of the Beagle

Born in 1809 in Shrewsbury, England, Charles Darwin was a man with an insatiable curiosity about the natural world. In 1831, he joined a five-year scientific expedition on the HMS Beagle. During this journey, Darwin explored South America and the Galapagos Islands, where he noticed subtle differences in animals of the same species on different islands. He observed that finches (birds) had different beak shapes depending on the food available in their environment. These observations led him to realize that species are not fixed, but they change over long periods to survive.

Natural Selection: Darwin’s theory explains that individuals with traits best suited to their environment are more likely to survive and reproduce. He called this process "Natural Selection" or "Survival of the Fittest."

A Scientific Revolution

After returning to England, Darwin spent decades researching and collecting evidence before finally publishing his masterpiece, On the Origin of Species, in 1859. The book caused a massive controversy as it challenged the religious and scientific beliefs of the time. Despite the criticism, his work became the foundation of modern Biology and evolutionary studies. Darwin’s ability to connect small observations into a grand theory of life’s history remains one of the greatest intellectual achievements in human history.

"It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change."

Pelayaran Kapal Beagle

Revolusi Ilmiah

Setelah kembali ke Inggris, Darwin menghabiskan waktu puluhan tahun meneliti dan mengumpulkan bukti sebelum akhirnya menerbitkan karya agungnya, On the Origin of Species, pada tahun 1859.
