Definition of Recount Text

Secara harfiah, recount bermakna "menceritakan". Jadi recount text bisa diartikan sebagai "Text yang menceritakan". Jika mengacu pada keterangan di buku-buku sekolah (baca : Buku Bahasa Inggris SMP / SMA) Recount text adalah a text that telling the reader about one story, action or activity. Its goal is to entertaining or informing the reader. (sebuah teks yang menceritakan sebuah cerita, aksi ataupun aktifitas. Tujuan recount text adalah untuk menghibur atau menginformasikan pembaca.)

Purpose of Recount Text

Tujuan komunikatif Recount Text seperti penjelasan di atas adalah untuk melaporkan peristiwa, kejadian atau kegiatan dengan tujuan memberitakan atau menghibur tentunya tanpa ada konflik di dalam cerita tersebut.

Generic Structures of Recount Text

Generic structure (susunan umum) recount text ini terdiri dari tiga bagian yaitu Orientation, Sequence of events and Reorientation:
  • Orientation 
Menceritakan siapa saja yang terlibat dalam cerita, apa yang terjadi, di mana tempat peristiwa terjadi, dan kapan terjadi peristiwanya)
  • Events
Jadi "Event" menceritakan apa yang terjadi lagi dan menceritakan urutan ceritanya. Terdapat beberapa events (peristiwa) dalam teks ini.
  • Reorientation
Dapat diartikan pada bagian"Reorientation" berisi penutup cerita / akhir cerita.

Grammar Used

Terdapat beberapa ciri-ciri kebahasaan yang mungkin akan teman-teman temukan ketika membaca sebuah Recount Text. Ciri-ciri kebahasaan dari Recount Text tersebut adalah:
  • Menggunakan Past Tense. Misalkan we went to Bukittinggi zoo, I was happy, etc
  • Menggunakan Conjunction dan Time Connectives untuk mengurutkan peristiwa atau kejadian. Misalnya and, but, the, aftar that, etc.
  • Menggunakan Adverbs dan Adverbial Phrase untuk mengungkapkan tempat, waktu dan cara. Misalkan yesterday, at my house, slowly, etc.
  • Menggunakan Action Verbs. Misalkan went, slept, run, brought, etc.

Our Trip to the Blue Mountain


On Friday we went to the Blue Mountains. We stayed at David and Della’s house. It has a big garden with lots of colourful flowers and a tennis court.

Pada hari jumat kami pergi ke Blue Mountains. Kami menginap di rumah David dan Della. Rumah tersebut mempunyai sebuah taman yang besar dengan banyak bunga warna warni dan sebuah lapangan tenis.


On Saturday we saw the Three Sisters and went on the scenic railway. It was scary. Then, Mummy and I went shopping with Della. We went to some antique shops and I tried on some old hats. On Sunday we went on the Scenic Skyway and it rocked. We saw cockatoos having a shower.

Pada hari sabtu kami melihat Three Sister dan pergi ke pemandangan jalan kereta api yang indah. Sangat menakutkan. Kemudian ibu dan saya pergi berbelanja dengan Della. Kita pergi ke toko-toko antik dan mencoba mendapatkan beberapa topi tua. Pada hari minggu kami pergi ke pemandangan Skyway dan berbatu. Kami melihat burung kakatua sedang mandi.


In the afternoon we went home. That was very pleasent moment with my family that I ever got.

Di sore hari kami pulang ke rumah. Itu merupakan momen paling menyenangkan bersama keluarga yang saya pernah dapatkan.

Holiday to Singapore

I want to tell you about my memorable time in Singapore. It was one of the best holidays I ever had.

I shall never forget the spectacular sight of the city. I saw from Mount Fable that night. The roller-coaster ride, the stunts performed by the dolphins and the killer whale at the Sea World were also exciting. I shall remember the thrill of having been on one of the longest rides in the monorail in Sentosa Island for many years to come.

I also enjoyed various varieties of seafood at the makeshift roadside stalls at the Chinatown night market. I also enjoyed the shopping trips. My family and friends agreed that the souvenirs were value for money, especially the silk scarves with pretty prints and the attractive key chains.

Going To Sanur Beach

Last holiday our family went to Bali to have picnic. We went there by plane. We were in Bali for six day, so we had to stay in a hotel because we didn’t have any relatives there. We stayed in Bali beach hotel near Sanur beach.

When we came to the hotel, we didn’t come to our room directly but we have to check in first. We were received by the receptionists who were friendly and kind, and then we were helped by a room boy who took us to our rooms.

On the second day we visited Sanur beach. We just took a walk because the beach is in front of the hotel. We walked along the seashore, played water and sand. Actually we also wanted to swim in the beach but the lifeguard didn’t allow us.

Besides doing many activities we also watched some foreign tourist’s activities. They were lying on the beach, while others were having massage or surfing. When we felt tired, we took a rest to have some meals and drinks; and at 2.0 p.m. We went to the hotel. It was tiring but we were happy.

On Thursday 24 April we went to the Botanical Gardens. We walked down and boarded the bus. After we arrived at the garden, we walked down to the Education Centre. The third grade students went to have a look around. First, we went to the first farm and Mrs. James read us some information. Then we looked at all the lovely plants. After that we went down to a little spot in the Botanical Garden and had a morning tea break.

Next, we did sketching and then we met the fourth grade students at the Education Centre to have lunch. Soon after that, it was time for us to go and make our terrariums while the fourth grade students went to have walk.

A lady took us into special room and introduced herself, and then she explained what we were going to do. Next, she took us to a pyramid terrarium. It was really interesting.

After we had finished, we met the fourth grade students outside the gardens. Then we rebounded the bus and returned to school.
